In "The Dream Guide," I created an installation that projects dizzying video onto a carpet. A song with the same title, which I learned in choir class, inspired me. The song has an odd alto melody, and I struggled with it for weeks. Then for choir homework, I needed to analyze the lyrics of the song. I learned how the composer dedicated the song to his teacher, the person who sparked his interest in music. My piece reproduces a sense of early-morning anxiety because that's what I went through every day as I prepared for my high-pressure choir concert. Like, sometimes, practice and preparation aren't enough to calm my nerves. So, the work generates a feeling like waiting for a decisive battle between fear and hope. I created this installation with yarn to create a crumby look, like grass or vintage carpet.
